In this linocut, Jesus welcomes children as reflected in Matthew 19.
This is an original linoleum block print (linocut). The linocut print is a type of relief printmaking. In relief printmaking an image is carved on the surface of a block, usually wood or linoleum. The ink is then applied to the raised surfaces using rollers. The ink is received by the uncarved areas of the block leaving the carved areas untouched. These untouched areas will remain white when printed. The block is then printed by hand by placing the paper onto the surface of the block and using pressure to lift the image onto the paper. For this, the artist may use either a hand rubbing tool or an etching printing press. This image has been printed on an etching press.
This original print is printed on Japanese handmade paper. It is shipped to you in pH-neutral materials. Be sure to have your framer use acid-free materials when framing the print. This will prevent age deterioration of the paper and preserve the life of the original linocut for many years to come.
